Has any experienced one or both tubes blocked or scared tissue and still had a sucessful preg? :-\
I have not been told I CAN NOT but some serious trying methods may need to be involved ( i guess like miracle or perfect PERFECT timing). Any sucess stories to know there is a chance would be great!

baby4us - Sep 28th, 2005 4:47 PM

Hi Cin.. It all depends on other factors... as to your success... I have one blocked tube.. and thoguth it was over for us.. we had been TTC on our own for over 1 1/2 years.

My obgyn wannted us to try IUI first.. before going to IVF... he reasonded that if everything else was fine with us (after countless blood tests, ultrasounds and many tests for DH.. we seemed to be ok.. other than being older and having the one blocked tube)

I have just finished my 2nd IUI and have just heard from my clinic that I got a BFP... so you might want to look into that.. but please make sure you get everything else checked out before deciding which route to take...'

Good Luck!
PS.. I have read and have been told by a number of doctors.. one tube isn't nec. a bad thing... apparently the egg will find the open tube.. not sure how accurate that is.. but it did give me some hope!

tinkerbell - Sep 28th, 2005 5:58 PM

Cin, in my case I only have one tube and one ovary :( I had this surgery when I was 20 and the dr removed one of my ovaries and tube.. but the good news is - I got pregnant naturally! so the other tube functioning did it work wonderfully! :)

hope all goes well for you...:)

SMS1129 - Sep 28th, 2005 6:04 PM

Cin,

I have 1 blocked tube and I only seemed to ovulate from that side, so IUI's didn't work for me. I had to move to IVF. Everyone's story is slightly different. Good luck to you!

Sue

Bim - Oct 6th, 2005 6:41 PM

Can you help, I have just had laproscopy done and told that I can not get pregnant, because my tubes are blocked.

cin - Oct 7th, 2005 1:32 PM

Bim,
I had the laposc bout 2yrs ago and wz just told it wz a mess and that more surgery would be needed however did another dye test 1yr later and one tube still open nxt option wz is to have surgery to ATTEMPT to open tubes and remove scare tissue etc. i forgot name of surgery but i do know i will be out of wrk for about 6wks and they will go in like if u where hving sesection..
don't give up hope and ask bout the surgery to open your tubes then if they can consider IVF. The stress behind this is sometimes not worth it .. i lft the situation alond for over 1yr or 2 and now found this site w/others who have one way or antoher can relate so i'm going to start process again..trying pill they have posted here Ovulex then surger in newyr.. running out of time (age)..Good luck & don't give up.

Hi
I had abdominal surgery and after the surgery one of my tubes was blocked or they thought it was blocked and I have done 3 ivf's, and not one doctor has evaluated the tube issue.
we are not using my eggs but my concern is if the tube is blocked, will there be liquid in the tubes that could case damange to the embryos or the babies?
does anyone know anything about this

cassandra - Nov 18th, 2005 8:22 AM

Was your abdominal surgery a Laproscopy? If so, they will have pictures of your tubes in file and be able to tell you what is blocking them. Mine are blocked with scar tissue. I don't know about blockage with fluid. You should be able to find out by contacting the dr. that did your surgery. Knowledge is power and I highly recommend you call him and demand answers. It is your right to know. They should have reviewed their findings with you the day of the surgery. Good luck to you.

to others, I had the lap done and it showed both tubes blocked. On our third round of IVF we suceeded. I wish everyone here tons of babydust! cassandra

cassandra - Nov 18th, 2005 8:37 AM

Brenda, I just noticed a post in getting started that Cin posted on fluid in the tubes. Take a look. It is very informative! Take care..cassandra

cin - Nov 22nd, 2005 5:28 PM

brenda,
most times or majority of the diagn for blocked tube is scar tissue or water in tube (hydrosalpinx). the research i have done lately has made me some what uncomfortable with a decision i may have to make later. I have left tube blkd and right one open however w/scar tissue so the chances of eptopic preg are high like this. I just decided to notify my infertility dr. after 3yrs to see what the diag was, so as of today i know what the prob is and the decision to make in new yr is: TO HAVE IVF ,'YES' WATER CAN LEAK OUT OF TUBE AND ALMOST 97% CAUSE U NOT TO GET PREG. OPTION IS TO HAVE RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY TO TUBES AND TRY FOR 1YR OR REMOVE TUBES ENTIRELY TO ENSURE ATLEAST 95% CHANCE OF SUCESSFUL IVF. SO SEE TO REMOVE TUBES SEEMS LIKE FAR FETCH TRY TO ME...DUNNO WHT TO DO QUITE YET BUT MY INFERTILITY QUESTION OF WHY I CAN'T HAVE A BABY IS ANSWERED..SO A PILL LIKE OVULEX WONT QUIT CUT IT FOR MY PROB... IF U LOOK UP HYDROSALPINX THERE ARE MANY MANY SITES WITH INFO... LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ?S

CIN - Nov 22nd, 2005 5:31 PM

CASSANDRA,
? FOR YA... ON IVF DO THEY CHARGE FOR EVERY ROUND? AND WERE U USING YOUR EGG AND DH SPERM?
IM PRETTY CERTAIN I OV AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF AND NEED TO CHECK THE FIANCE....
ALSO DOES IT TAKE ALONG TIME FOR THE PROCESS, IM KINDA OF EXCITED TO JUST GET THE BALL ROLLING??? ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT.. THX

Hello I really need help I start seeing a fertility doctor about 2 1/2 years ago my husband sperm was fine and the doctor told me I have P.CO.S and that when he started me on clomid pills and I was also giving myself injections but I still did not get pregnant I went to my Obgyn doctors which is a female and she suggested that I have a HSG test when I took it I found out that I have a tube that blocked on my right side and the left tube is open. My whole point is my infertility doctor was a male doctor and he had me spending all this money on fertility drugs that I could have saved and it took a women to suggest a test and there was the problem not only did I have cysts I also had a blocked tube and he is now is telling me I'm over weight and I need to loose 30 to 40 pounds in order for him to do the surgery to open up my tube.So if anyone can offer advice please help....

n'chayla - Apr 1st, 2006 6:37 PM

What's up, I've been taking Ovulex for 8wks with no luck as of yet. To my knowledge I have 1 blocked tube which I question the doctor b/c even he acted unsure if it was or not and the other was partially removed b/c of a tubal preg. My question is to everyone Has anyone of you guys had sex and sometimes the sperm comes out and you have to lay down for a while for it to "soak" in? Or when you stand up it wants to come out????????

Gen - Apr 28th, 2006 6:17 AM

I was wondering if anyones knows if IVI still works if your tubes are blocked. I am unsure what to do? my consultant has tested me and advised me not to bother seeing if my tubes are blocked, she has told me to go on the waiting list for IVF???

ElizabethS - Apr 28th, 2006 8:12 AM

I lost both of my fallopian tubes - one due to a large ovarian cyst and the other due to massive scar tissue from a bowel preforation. I was devastated, and our only option was IVF. On our first attempt, we put in three embryos and I delivered triplets on 11/18/05.

I believe and have been told by physicians that the chances of getting pregnant (via IVF) are high if this is your only factor.

Good Luck and Baby dust to all!

hi i need some advice please we have been trying for a baby for the past 2 years i recently was referred to my gyn and have undergone tests to see the problem ie 21 progetrone test, semen analysis and HSG. The doctor doing the HSG told me my left tube is blocked and my right is patent. I asked him what this means but he said he would let the gyn explain that to me. the problem is my appointment isnt for another 3 weeks and i am going out of my mind with worry really. I know from my research on infertility that blocked fallopian tubes are not a good thing but i was wondering if the fact that one is patent is good i dont know can anyone advise is there hope there or not

mu - May 2nd, 2006 2:34 AM

ke-ke - May 8th, 2006 12:07 PM

I had my left tube removed when i was 20yrs and i have pcos and my right tube is open but focal collection at distal end which i dont have a clue what it means. The hb is normal and i am worried because i want to have a child. we have 6yrs together and no pregnancy only one and it was ectopic.

I have the same problem were i lay down with my hips elivated and it still comes out. my husband and i are still trying for a year and 5 months. we went to a specialist i had that hsg, the labascopy and i have one block fallopian tube and one that is healthy and open. we are gonna try on our own for the first year then if nothing happeneds then i guess it's time for some extra help. i have gotten a second opoin and it's all the same thing. but it's not cheap to do all these drugs to help us get pregant. my husbands stuff is fine and healthy he is 38 and i am 33 so i think in that deparment is fine. it's just trying to get pregant it has be hard i know when i am ovulating and when iam fertle my periods are always 31 days so i guess we will kep trying what do you think???

cin - May 17th, 2006 10:43 AM

hello ladies,
Hope some of you still visit this page. I hve some answers to the ?s asked and yes still in the dark about others. I am 30yr of age (as of march) have known there is prob w/my tubes for about 6yrs. My gyn first put me on clomid once he knew I wasn't preg after 1st few yrs we went on to HSG (dye test) both tubes are in SEVERE status left one blocked and both swollen which turns out to be Hydrosalpinx (basically water in tubes) however right one still bit open. I did lapro however due to damage dr. was unable to reach or open tubes. I gave this issue a rest for yrs due to the stress and not much info or support. Here today 1yr into new relationship and to be wed in Feb07 we have tried for over 6mths still nothing, fertility dr. advised that i go for surgery to open tubes or if damage is unrepairable have them removed!! yes just as sacry as it sounds... :-( i hve not decided due to planning wedding etc but Adoption is high on our list or having his sis or my sis carry OUR baby (my egg/his sperm) YES ITS POSSIBLE AND SAFE AND CHEAPER than surogate. just keep in my IVF is an option HOWEVER in my situation water in tubes CAN leak out and cause the sperm and egg to not attach therefore I STILL need surgery before I consider IVF. Look into your insurance providers they can help some ( i have AETNA and they cover upto $50% in meds etc and ONE time try for IVFup to $10,000). Also quick lil note OVULEX is NOT a FDA approved drug however does not appear to be harmful either, i had my fertility dr. look into it for me.
Also on the sex and fluid leaking out quickly yes it happens, most times due to my slanted uterus i have to be elevated. well hope to hear from some of you soon. cin

Ok, so I'm new here - just wanted to say HI first.
Now, onto about me...
Dh and I have been ttc #2 for 6 years in oct. Recently in April I had a surgery -lap, and an HSG (dye to check blockage) My whole right tube was blocked. He did clean it out and removed endo tissue.
I am overweight and he never said that was an issue as far as performing the surgery.
He said these next 3 months will be my "best" time to conceive.
I took my first round of clomid last week. I OV today (according to my chart)... BD every other day and we'll see what happens.
My surgery took over 3 hours. It was on a friday - i went home that afternoon and went to work on that Monday- I was SORE!!@!!!!! BUt - I'll give ANYTHING to get pg.. so pain is not a problem.
Now - address "n'chayla's" comment and ? - I was told by doc to STAY PUT for 30 min. after BD. Just let DH do his thing - grab a small towel and lay there.! After 30 min DH/BF stuff liquidizes anyhoo ... but wait for a while before even gettting up.
My mott - Waste not want not ! (gross? ) :)

Baby dust to you all..
Hope to meet some great friends on here> !:)

razlynn - Oct 20th, 2006 11:44 AM

In August, I had an HSG that showed both of my tubes were blocked all the way. I had had a previous laprotomy to remove a fibroid tumor. The HSG helped unblock my tubes. My husband and I believe could have got pregnant on our own, but we didn't want to wait because my insurance was changing their policy on paying for fertility treatments. My husband and I went ahead and did IVF and was successful! I believe you will be able to get pregnant. Stay positive.

karen1 - Oct 23rd, 2006 10:54 PM

I posted a question in Infertility 101, but I'd thought I'd ask the ladies too...I have 1 blocked tube & 1 partially blocked. My RE wants me to start taking Clomid (Serophene) I have no other hormonal probs that they have discovered. Is this common that he would prescribe this medication given my situation? It doesn't make any sense to me!!!! ??? Has anyone gone through a similar circumstance? (Or know of anyone?)

WI102 - Oct 25th, 2006 10:03 AM

Hi Karen1,

My situation is similar to yours. I was diagnosed with a hydrosalpinx (blocked and filled with fluid) in my right tube, but my left tube looked normal on the HSG. My doctor thinks that it was caused by an appendectomy that I had 20 years ago. She just prescried Clomid for me this month. I'm a bit skeptical too, because I don't have any hormonal problems and don't want the Clomid to induce any other problems. She told me that she wants to make sure that I do ovulate on my "good side" before proceeding with a lap surgery.

I also inquired about this on Infertility 101, and the doctor there told me that he doesn't prescribe Clomid because its not very good. But it seems to be what every women is on that I know if (at least initially). So I'm going to give it a try. That doctor also was not very optimistic about someone with tubal damage conceiving naturally and suggested that IVF would be the best course of treatment for me. Just thought I would prepare you for his advice (I was not prepared for it when I wrote to him).

I hope things work out for you!

cindim - Oct 25th, 2006 7:22 PM

hellokaren & W102,
i so understand your situations! i am 31 yrs old and have hydrosalpinx. i hve one tube blocked and other partially blocked and have had 2 dye test that show how swollen both tubes are. i hve also had that minor (in/out)surgergy laparscopy and due to damage the where unable to clear them that way THEN i was on clomid which determined 1st time that there wz a fertility issue then 2nd time after the surgery that i do ovulate fine however only issue is the egg will not pass because of blockage SO i layed off the issue for few yrs due to the NON support and severe stress ..then here today 5yrs later and a NEW fiance' i decided to go bck to dr. to see what chngd if any and OPTIONS.. my obgyn has this great outview that i can conceive due to one tube partial open HOWEVER my Infertility dr. (his partner) layed it out and states this: THERE IS NO PILL THAT WILL FIX BLOCKED TUBES AND BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE OF MINE THEY CAN NOT CLEAR THEM UP EITHER, NEXT OPTION IS MAJOR SURGERY, LIKE A CESECTION TO GO IN ATTEMPT TO CLEAR THEM AND OR CLOSE THEM PERMANATELY TO BE PREPARED FOR IVF!! IF I CHOOSE NOT TO CLOSE THEM AND PERSUE IVF THERE IS A 95% CHANCE THE WATER (HENCE HYDRO-SALPINX) WILL OR CAN LEAK OUT AND NOT ALLOW EGG AND SPERM TO CATCH... so that is my story..31yrs old getting married in 3mnths w/my soul mate and don't think i can hve this surgery knowing my tubes are remvd or closed forever-though i know they dont wrk..adoption is a big big option for us however the $$$does not grow anywhere for me :-) and next is sorragate (sis inlaw)...few mnths ago i had blood drawn to ensure i ovulate and fiance sperm count so we are ALLGOOD except for my tubes!! it is very hard to accept or 5yrs ago atleast but here today with the luv and support i hve i am okay with MY situation -OUR situation rather.. so unfort for situations like ours clomid/ovuled/massage theropy is not the answer,,i'm here to listen if need be.... cinm

Hello Razlynn,
my name is Bonnie and I had a HSG and both of my tubes are blocked and I have a fibroid tumor as well. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing with us because my doc said "I will not get pregnant no matter what treatment I went with. How did the HSG help unblock your tubes? ??? ???

Marina - Feb 6th, 2008 9:19 PM

Blessing,
I'm not a doctor, but have similar situation to yours. Here is what I know. Not every blockage can be fixed by HSG,in fact it's rare and not very effective,b/c even if you'll be able to get PG naturaly after this, there is a high risk ectopic(tubal pregnancy) because of the inflamation or endo in your tubes. In my case I did not have any fluid or inflamation-mine both had scar tissue on the very end by the ovaries. They may offer you laparascopic surgery to open them up(because no fluid can flush your tudes in this case (they can't put a lot of pressure b/c it's very delicate organ ),but again-it's only 20% chance to get PG and a big risk of tubal PG.So, unfortunately,it seems like the only chance to get PG is IVF.Good luck!

i just had a friend with a blocked tube and she went through surgery to unblock it it took 2.5 hrs and they were sucessful.

I have done a lot of research on natural family planning and I just wanted to let you all know about the "sperm" leaking out. It isn't technically sperm it's semen (sperm is contained within the semen). There will always be a "wet spot". What the wet spot contains will depend on whether or not you are ovulating. When you are not ovulating, your body's defense kills the sperm when it enters your cervix. If you are ovulating then the sperm is allowed to travel through your cervix into your tubes. But the remainder of the semen and the sperm that are not strong enough to swim to your tubes, will leak out. I hope this information helps some of you.

Baby dust to all.

mimit - Apr 1st, 2008 2:13 PM

Gen~
I had a HSG test done in January ( I had requested this after failing to get pregnant with IUI's) and it revealed that my right tube is completely blocked and my left side has been distorted like a weak waterhose. And although while the left side is open it would leave me at high risk to for an EP. And to answer your question an IUI will not work if you tubes are blocked. As the eggs have to have a clear path in the flappoian tiubes to meat the sperm. So has your RE requested and HSG test to be done on you? Why would she suggest you straight to IVF?
