New Test Checks Fertility At Home - 06/05/2007
The first at home fertility screening test for both men and women is now available in the United States.
Called Fertell, the test allows couples to assess key elements of male fertility and female fertility with an accuracy level of 95%, according to its maker Genosis, Inc.
While the fertility test went on sale in the United States on Monday, it has been available in the United Kingdom and in Ireland for over a year.
The male component of the test assesses the concentration of motile sperm in semen, which is a central indicator of sperm health. Test results are availalbe within 80 minutes. The female component of the test analyzes follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) levels in a woman's urine on the third day of her menstrual cycle. FSH is an important indicator of a woman's ovarian reserve, of the age of her ovaries as well as of the ability of the ovaries to respond to FSH in order to produce eggs for fertilization. Test results from the female component of the test are available in 30 minutes.
Consumers can purchase the test through select drug stores as well as online.
