More Women in their Forties Using IVF - 06/05/2007
The number of women ages 40 and older undergoing fertility treatment has risen dramatically, a new study based in England has found.
The study results reported that in 1991, women aged 40 to 45 accounted for 596 cycles of in vitro fertilization (IVF), a number which jumped to 6 174 in 2006. In both cases, women used their own eggs for the assisted reproduction procedure.
According to these statistiscs, women ages 40 to 45 accounted for 9.2% of all IVF cycles in 1991, a percentage which increased to 15.5% in 2006.
However, pregnancy success rates using IVF did not experience a sharp climb, despite overall increases in IVF live birth rates over the past decade.
